Sona Gears Up for Growth: Appoints John P. Thompson as President and CEO; Nick Ferris Moves Up to Chairman of the Board

marketwire
Press Release Source: Sona Resources Corporation On Tuesday March 2, 2010, 9:30 am EST

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - 03/02/10) - Sona Resources Corp. (the "Company" or "Sona") (TSX-V:SYS - News) a Vancouver-based company engaged in the development and exploration of gold prospects in North America, is pleased to announce the appointments of John P. Thompson, P.Eng., as President and CEO, and Nick Ferris, previously President and CEO, as Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors.

In making the announcement today, Sona's new Chairman, Nick Ferris, says that Mr. Thompson has the ideal skill set and is perfectly suited to lead the Company at this time: "We are delighted to have John Thompson join our corporate team. Our company has the opportunity of becoming a gold-producing company in the very near future, with a sustaining cash flow and the ability to aggressively explore new gold prospects. Mr. Thompson's skills will be invaluable in guiding Sona toward these goals."

As a geologist and geological engineer, Mr. Thompson has over 35 years of experience in surface and underground exploration, mine development projects, property evaluation and acquisitions, joint venture negotiations, mineral resource estimation and project preliminary economic analysis, and executive management in the international minerals industry. He has also managed day-to-day operations for exchange-listed junior exploration companies. Mr. Thompson has been involved with project planning and budgeting, and has supervised, evaluated and reported on a variety of programs, from grassroots exploration to mine development. He has worked in numerous jurisdictions, including Canada, the United States, the Dominican Republic, South America and Asia.

Mr. Thompson stated, "I am excited to be involved with a team in advancing the Blackdome Gold Mine and mill and the Elizabeth Gold Property toward a production decision. There will be challenges to overcome over the next couple of years as we strive to again become a small gold producer, but I believe we have the property, resources and required tools to make this happen."

Mr. Ferris, in his new role as Executive Chairman, will focus on strategic vision, financing and public relations initiatives. "In the past year, Sona has undergone a major transformation to facilitate the goal of becoming a gold producer," he says. "Now that we're entering a new phase - with the major focus on creating gold production at the Blackdome Gold Mine and the Elizabeth Gold Property - increased communication with investors, communities and government is an even greater priority."

About Sona Resources Corp.
