Ottawa-based Wi-LAN Inc., holder of a lucrative patent portfolio related to a range of wireless technologies, began listing on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange Wednesday morning under the ticker WILN.
The patent holding firm has been trading on the TSX under the ticker WIN since 1998.
“A significant portion of our revenues are generated in the United States as many of our licensees are based there and most of our comparable peers are traded on NASDAQ,” Jim Skippen, Wi-LAN’s chief executive, said in a release.
He was in New York City Wednesday morning to ring the opening bell.
“Having our shares traded on NASDAQ will make it easier for investors in the United States to invest in Wi-LAN,” Mr. Skippen said.
After settling a major patent infringement lawsuit with computer chip maker Intel Corp. in mid-January, Wi-LAN’s valuation hit $760-million, making it Ottawa’s most valuable public company.
