Quebec vs. British Columbia

Here is my take as in the difference between attempting to operate in Quebec in the oil and gas industry vs. British Columbia. I am writing this after watching BNN this morning. There was an announcement that a company called Progress Energy Resources sold a 50% stake (approximately 150,000 acres) in a British Columbia natural gas field (Montney region) to a company from Malaysia for 1.07 BILLION.

B.C. - Open for business
Quebec - imposes a moratorium

B.C. - Welcomes outside investors
Quebec - Allows companies to work initially then imposes a moratorium.

B.C. - Implements safe practices for drilling, fracking and production.
Quebec - Needs to study the issue, 60 years of drilling and fracking information worldwide is not enough. They know little about the industry so instead of asking experts who know about it already, they want to study it themselves(brilliant).

B.C. - Employs thousands of locals to work in oil and gas fields. Mom and Dad are happy their children are close to home.
Quebec - Allows B.C. to hire Quebec residents. Mom an Dad miss their children, Sunday evening dinners will never be the same. 

B.C. - Enjoys collecting taxes, royalty payments and building infrastructure
Quebec - needs to study the issue further, asks Federal Government for additional handouts and support.

B.C. - Enjoys clean, fresh water (nobody dies due to contaminated water from fracking - ever !!)
Quebec - Enjoys clean, fresh water ( because social activists pressure government not to allow hydraulic fracking)

B.C. - People of B.C. enjoy the benefits of using natural gas produced from their own province.
Quebec - Also use and enjoy the benefits of natural gas produced in B.C......What the heck, it only costs $2 Billion per year to import it from accross the country when they have it in their own backyard (again, brilliant)

B.C. - Allows oil and natural gas production in the province, works with (or ignores) the few who oppose the industry.
Quebec - Caters to the few who are ignorant about the industry. The debunked film "Gasland" is their primary source of information.

and....finally for you sports fans...........

Quebec - Sits around, enjoys their poutine and reminisce about those great Habs teams from the past.
B.C. - Partying while watching their team compete for this years Stanley Cup (Coup du Stanley).

B.C...................................................................................................................stick with the program.
Quebec (those politicians responsible for this moratorium)...............get with the program, enough said.
