RE: RE: RE: Chavez has cancer. Rock on!From the news reports certainly 'sounds' like Chavez may not have caught his prostate cancer till a bit late in the game....in which case would expect his chances are rather bleak...even with the 'best' cancer care specilaist Cuba has to offer. No fan of the dude....but still...darn tough way to go.
If so.... question is who in his party would be in line to take over?
Admit ....i'm not up on Venezuelan politics...but my take on Chavez was he was really 'the' main charismatic 'strong man' leader of his workers party....the glue so to speak that built his labour party and held things together....and usually find in such situations that there is no real #2 or #3 ....or #10...standing in line to take over the helm.
In which case...things could get very interesting indeed in Venezuala in the next year or so.
Guess problem is Chavez has also likely done a great job of destroying all his other 'in country' potential rival party candidates, free voice newspapers, etc. So....my guess is if Chavez does eventually have to step aside for health reasons....would represent a huge opportunity for say some displaced expate Venezalaun pro business leader to 'return' to Venezuala and help try and re-build/'save' this resource rich once economically powerful SA country ....and put it back on track.
There's obviously pros and cons for what Chavez has done and or tried to do....and or how he has gone about it....however ....think that things have finally gotten so bad down there over last sev yrs....that the very workers that formerly supported Chavez may be ripe for a fresh voice and positive change.
Venezala is still a very VERY attractive long term inverstment/bet ....And how's that Buffet saying go again..."When there's blood on the streets...it's time to buy!" Guess time while tell....but in the meanwhile...good idea to stay tuned.
