RE: Is it possible
RE: Is it possibleI doubt it. The incentive is always to get the job done as efficiently (and safely) as possible. But of course "Ego" in the Operations department gets in the way of efficiency with some companies - as I'm sure we all know from (bitter) experience.
All the partners will have equal access to all the real time operations data and technical service company details. (At least that is how it works most of the time here in Albertastan). The Operator though is always the one who makes the call on how things are done and the significant partners just have to wince or hold their nose and keep signing the AFE revision requests.
No matter how you slice it though - this well has taken an exceedingly long time to get to where it is - and I am sure there were better ways of drilling it than were chosen. But always these sorts of things are much easier in hindsight than when looking forward. The thing that still puzzles me is how they were so far off on the initial seismic interpretation? Again I guess its not that there were lots of offset wells here to calibrate the seismic to and there could always be more complex structural things going on in the heart of these foothills thrust fault/fold belt features not always obvious without excellent 3-D seismic data leading to anomalous thickenings.
Providing the Cretaceous here is suitably oil filled - it will be interesting to see if they can get things speeded up and improved if/when they get around to drilling QD # 2 for refining the Aaliji and Cretaceous reserve estimates and determining the Jurassic potential. Maybe they drill off to the north west on the Sagrima Dome? Or in a more flanking position on the main structure looking to deepen the "lowest known oil" value for reserve number enhancement?
This is of course getting completely ahead of ourselves - first lets find out what we have in this QD # 1 well LOL!
