RE: Report: Indonesia may ban mining exportsThe report title is misleading. It's simply an effort by the Indonesian government to get value added processing done at home creating jobs, rather than exporting the raw ore to other countries where the jobs are created. The upgraded product can then be exported. On the surface it shouldn't result in any reduction of supply to world markets however some companies with marginal or small scale operations might decide it's not cost effective to start up a unique smelter in Indonesia just to process that ore and might throw in the towel and abandon or sell out their operation.
Didn't Newfoundland do much the same thing in the negotiations with Inco over Voisy Bay???
