Brazil

Brazil
So are you reading all the media stuff about Canada wanting to increase trade ties with Brazil?   Harper has just realized the size of the market...

Brazil is a critical strategic ally. With a population of 200 millionand now the world's seventh largest economy, it has overtaken Canada insize, and, arguably, in regional influence.

With ambitions tomatch its economic might, Brazil's international stature is alsogrowing. It leads the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti, andis seeking a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. The country'seconomy is stable, the growth rate is a healthy 4 per cent, and there isan infrastructure boom in preparation for the 2014 World Cup and 2016Olympics. Mr. Harper's visit comes on the heels of a trade mission lastmonth, involving 19 Canadian companies, and his presence will helpsecure more contracts. “It is worth courting Brazil. There is hugepotential there,” says Jennifer Jeffs, president of the CanadianInternational Council. “The trip proves Canada is taking its globalleadership seriously.”
