.

thanx for your recent post of August 12.

.

regarding your query "Did any such Michigan Cu get exported via the fur trade James Bay lowland routes?"

.

answer...not that i can find!!!.

.

in the process though, the following is some info that i managed to dig up:

........................................................

[A] https://www.greatcanadianrivers.com/rivers/missinaibi/history-home.html

[cut/paste above url to "google]

.

below, some exerpts from the above article:

SECTION: "The Michipicoten-Missinaibi-Moose River Trade Route"

.

"When maverick fur traders such as Radisson and Groseilliers ventured inland from James Bay, in 1660, and Hudson's Bay Company cartographer Philip Turnor surveyed the Missinaibi area in 1781, they were simply re-discovering a long-established aboriginal trade route."

.

"For at least 2,000 years, Cree and Ojibwa peoples had inhabited the Missinaibi valley, using the river and its link to Lake Superior to trade moose hides and raw copper for the corn and tobacco of agricultural tribes far to the south. "

.....................................................

SECTION: "Missinaibi Trader's Trip, Circa 1825"

.

" The (550 km) trip begins as bales of beaver pelts are loaded into lightweight canots du nord at the Hudson's Bay Company's Michipicoten River Post, located on the delta of the Michipicoten River on the north-east shore of Lake Superior. "

.

"After 1 more portage, the upper end of the Missinaibi waterway shimmers into view. If winds are high, the trip through Missinaibi Lake, over 50 kilometres long and up to 16 kilometres deep, can be dangerous"

.
"Finally, the river slows and broadens, joined by the Mattagami, and then the Abitibi. The river's name has changed, from the Missinaibi to the Moose River."

on Lake Superior....

...note Isle Royale located about 50 km south of Thunder Bay

...Michipicoten Island located about 250 km east of Isle Royale

...note route of above "Trader's Trip" thru Missinaibi Lake/River to Moosonee, James Bay.

...about 300 km due north of Michipicoten Island, note Ogoki & the Missisa Lake which are located about 100 km from the Ring Of Fire "Big Daddy" chromite deposit [KWG, CLF].

...and Moosonee about 200 km from Attawapiskat [did i hear someone mention diamonds??]

.

some exerpts:

"Estimates are that native people were most active on Isle Royale between 800 AD to 1600 AD. "

"Jacques Cartier, during his second voyage to Canada in 1535, was presented with a large copper knife which came from "Saguenay."By the 1840s, the only Indian camps the white miners discovered were a maple sugaring camp on Sugar Mountain and a seasonal fishing camp on Grace Island."

(side-note: Grace Island is located on the west end of Isle Royale.

Sugar Mountain is located about 12 km inland, east of Grace Island.

.

refer map below.)

.

map Isle Royale

https://www.isle.royale.national-park.com/map.htm

..................................

"in 1783, ... Benjamin Franklin bargained Isle Royale into the United States territory because of its reputation for rich copper deposits. Originally during the treaty process the boundary line ran through the middle of Lakes Ontario, Erie, and Huron and their linking waterways. Franklin, a member of the Boundary Commission, had heard of the mineral deposits of Lake Superior and shifted his pencil to mark a line somewhat north of the center line of Lake Superior. Thus the Northern Peninsula and Isle Royale ended up as parts of the United States instead of Canada."
