RE: RE: RE: If I were RIM

RE: RE: RE: If I were RIMThe Globe and Mail source is inaccurate. HP does own the patents behind WebOS - and it also owns other patents pertaining to Palm-related devices. It took all of this own in its $1.2B purchase of Palm.

I have long held that RIM should have been the one to take over Palm. The Pre/PrePlus embodies everything the Torch should have been.

However, as it is, all it has to do is offer HP perhaps a small premium over the $1.2B spent, and it could own that piece of HP outright. Forget the PC business, it is a commodity business owned by Lenovo and other similar manufacturers. But the WebOS and smartphone technologies embodied in the Palm-related patents would be invaluable to RIM.

RIM should make an offer for the Palm-related business... but it won't be the only one looking. I believe Samsung is already in talks with HP for a takeover - because they were talking already for WebOS to be put on Samsung phones - and who knows who else.
