RE: "Overheat and Blow Up"Sorry for the quick short answer. Here is a longer one. I believe this question was not asked in a recent interview. I believe that interview was 2008. It's bizarre how you always gloss over how old your information really is. And I also believe the answer from Sankar Das Gupta was specifically "The first-generation lithium-ion batteries used something called lithium-cobalt oxide as a positive electrode. But lithium-cobalt oxide had a propensity to have a thermal runaway. Now it's still used in small cells, but in big cells I don't know anyone who is still using lithium-cobalt oxide; instead they're using all kinds of newer materials."
Now lets not forget that Sony (the fairly large Japanese manufacturer) recalled.....oh....around 100,000 Lithium-Ion laptop batteries the same year as this interview. And a year or two before that they recalled a lot more. Funny how you missed mentioning that. Yep, several large companies were having to fix their new battery technologies. But you try to make it seem like just EFL had that problem. Fail! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
