My 2 CentsFirst of all I don't post that often but i do own shares and I follow the board regularly. I would not own OPL if they were a one trick pony and do believe they are a viable solar company stand alone. I have two sides of thought when it comes to OPEL and specifically the POET technology.
1) The dreamer side of me wants to believe that this will be the ultimate replacement for silicon and that OPEL will benefit through a sale and collect royalties for decades to come.
2) The realist in me thinks that a fundamental shift in the use of silicon to an alternate product/technology is still a long ways away. There is way too much invested in silicon infrastructure throughout the world to make such a distinctive shift. This would truly have to be a paradigm shift in the electronics world and it doesn't make business sense to not be able to maximize the gradual fade out of silicon rather than a "flick the switch" and move to another technology. Its like the electric car in the 90's. It proved to be too much too soon for the producers and consumers. The only way electric cars became viable was to make them a hybrid with the combustion engine.
There is simply too much to lose for businesses that are committed to silicon. I am not saying that I agree with this theory but unfortunately it is the reality of how the world economy works.
Time will tell.
Happy trading.
