Proverbs 30
5 “Every word of Godis flawless;
he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
6 Do not add to his words,
orhe will rebuke you and prove you a liar.
7 “Two things I ask of you, LORD;
do notrefuse me before I die:
8Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
give me neither poverty norriches,
but give me only my daily bread.
9 Otherwise, I may have toomuch and disown you
and say, ‘Who is the LORD?’
Or I maybecome poor and steal,
and so dishonor the name of my God.
10 “Do not slander a servantto their master,
or they will curse you, and you will pay for it.
11 “There arethose who curse their fathers
and do not bless their mothers;
12 those who are pure in theirown eyes
and yet are not cleansed of their filth;
13 those whose eyes are ever sohaughty,
whose glances are so disdainful;
14 those whose teeth are swords
and whose jaws are set with knives
to devour the poor fromthe earth
and the needy from among mankind.
15 “The leech has twodaughters.
‘Give! Give!’ they cry.
“There are threethings that are never satisfied,
four that never say, ‘Enough!’:
16 the grave, the barren womb,
land, which is never satisfied with water,
and fire,which never says, ‘Enough!’
17 “The eye that mocks a father,
thatscorns an aged mother,
will be pecked out by the ravens of thevalley,
will be eaten by the vultures.
18 “There are three things thatare too amazing for me,
four that I do not understand:
19 the way of an eagle in thesky,
the way of a snake on a rock,
the way of a ship on thehigh seas,
and the way of a man with a young woman.
20 “This is the way of anadulterous woman:
She eats and wipes her mouth
and says,‘I’ve done nothing wrong.’
21 “Under three things the earth trembles,
underfour it cannot bear up:
22a servant who becomes king,
a godless fool who gets plenty toeat,
23 a contemptiblewoman who gets married,
and a servant who displaces hermistress.
5Every word ofGod is tried and purified; He is a shield to those who trust and takerefuge in Him.(B)
6Add not to His words,lest He reprove you, and you be found a liar.
7Two things have I askedof You [O Lord]; deny them not to me before I die:
8Remove far from mefalsehood and lies; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with thefood that is needful for me,
9Lest I be full and deny You and say, Whois the Lord? Or lest I be poor and steal, and so profane the name of myGod.(C)
10Do not accuse and hurta servant before his master, lest he curse you, and you be held guilty[of adding to the burdens of the lowly].
11There is a class ofpeople who curse their fathers and do not bless their mothers.
12There is aclass of people who are pure in their own eyes, and yet are not washedfrom their own filth.
13There is a class of people--oh, howlofty are their eyes and their raised eyelids!
14There is a class ofpeople whose teeth are as swords and whose fangs as knives, to devourthe poor from the earth and the needy from among men.
15The leech has twodaughters, crying, Give, give! There are three things that are neversatisfied, yes, four that do not say, It is enough:
16Sheol (the place ofthe dead), the barren womb, the earth that is not satisfied with water,and the fire that says not, It is enough.
17The eye that mocks afather and scorns to obey a mother, the ravens of the valley will pickit out, and the young vultures will devour it.(D)
18There are three thingswhich are too wonderful for me, yes, four which I do not understand:
19The way of aneagle in the air, the way of a serpent upon a rock, the way of a ship inthe midst of the sea, and the way of a man with a maid.
20This is the way of anadulterous woman: she eats and wipes her mouth and says, I have done nowickedness.
21Underthree things the earth is disquieted, and under four it cannot bear up:
22Under a servantwhen he reigns, a [empty-headed] fool when he is filled with food,
23An unloved andrepugnant woman when she is married, and a maidservant when shesupplants her mistress.
