Teck would be foolish not to back in. Their market cap is down, but not on fundamentals, on fear mongering and short selling. If the Teck BOD and Management have foresight beyond the next 6 months, they will take this back-in. Fiduciary duty to shareholders to preserve LT shareholder value. This situation has nothing in common with Foarding coal.
The back-in won't maximize the upfront consideration vs. an outright sale, but leaves money on the table for CUU in the form of non-contracted properties of unknown but speculatively large magnitudes.
