DesertificationAlthough this is not relevant to China, it is an interesting article about desertification and the effects in Africa. What I find interesting is that it talks about the socio-economic impacts and benefits of combating desertification. We often think about the environmental aspect, but the rural areas of China are not so different from the villages of Africa, and the people who are facing the challenges of life from encroaching deserts. Many survive on subsistence farming and with China's huge population and possibility of mass starvation, the Gov't needs to do something while there is still time.
