RE: HOUSE POSITION -what does it mean

Please enlighten me. When people say the house bought x amount of shares. Is the Brokerage firm buying these shares for themselves or are they buying them on the behalf of clients. I have a Cannacord account and there are postings here that are saying that Cannacord is driving the price down...who are they driving the price down for ? If I called Canacord and told my broker to place a limit buy order GTC for 50,000 shares at $2.00, am I driving the price down ? Is a HOUSE position based on the Securities Company trying to drive the price down by flushing out the nervious ones....only to sell the shares back at a later date? or what ?
