US raw steel production rises 2.9% on week

WASHGINTON (Scrap Monster): US raw steel production has risen 2.9% to 1,833,000 tons for the week ending October 8, according to The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) putting an end to recent declining trend in production. In the prior week (ended October 1), US raw steel production had fallen 3.8 percent compared to the week before.
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,833,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 2.9 percent increase from the 1,781,000 mt produced in the previous week, and a 12.5 percent increase from the 1,629,000 nt produced in the same week of last year. The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 74.8 percent in the week ending October 8, compared to 72.8 percent in the previous week and 70.8 percent in the same week of last year.
