ArcelorMittal's Fire Lake mine

ArcelorMittal's Fire Lake mineEven ArcelorMittal who has control of the rail line isn't that excited about the Fire Lake iron ore district. Its Fire Lake mine is only mined in the warm months from May to October, with no crusher or concentrator on site. It's a small satellite operation, producing about 1.5 MT annually. Why such small production when iron ore prices are sky high? The same reason Cliffs isn't doing much right now to develop Lamalee-Peppler. The Fire Lake district is a little too far from established infrastructure to commit to building a massive mine.

The majors are concentrating on expanding their mines which are actually located near Fermont. ADV is doing the same. CHM is pretending its Fire Lake properties are in Fermont.
