Perhaps what's lost in theMedia discussion about the delay/cancellation of Keystone - is that in this case, the special interests lost. TRP and ex-ambassador David Wilkins etc... are all lambasting the decision as "political". I find that interesting: when the special interests lose, it is "political" -- but when their lobbying is successful it is not political but just "good business"...... .And of course from the other side the 'environmentalists' see it is a victory. Personally I think we have to move beyond these silly "Us versus Them", Liberal versus Conservative or Environmentalists versus Corporations debates. There's 7 billion of us on the planet now. Gone are the days of one group or special interest trying to ram their agenda down everyone else's throats. Everyone wants a say now - so unless you are willing to go the brute force route (ie:war), that means consensus building, consultation, and involving more stakeholders etc.... all of which is a slow process.
