Transfer shares to a TFSA

I asked at the TD Canada Trust Bank branch if I can transfer my shares ($5,000 worth in Jan.) out of my RSP account (pay the tax) and have the same shares in my Tax Free Account ( without selling and rebuying). They said I could....at these low prices it looks good for big growth in my TFSA. The fellow at the bank said no one ever asked about this...Anyone else ever do this?
