Pine Beetle?

Can somebody please explain what the big deal with pine beetle is. As far as I can tell the wood is getting harvested before it goes to waste and is cheap to purchase as incentive to try to eliminate the problem. Although these bugs eventually cause the tree to die, the wood is harvested before it is too far gone, brought to the mill and processed just the same as any log producing lumber as good as any.
