Here is some good news!! The province says Petroworth Resources Inc. can drill an exploratory oil well in Cape Breton as planned, despite efforts by an environmental group to stop it.
Nova Scotia Environment Minister Sterling Belliveau has rejected an appeal by the Margaree Environmental Association.
"I have carefully reviewed the grounds for appeal and there wasn't sufficient evidence to support overturning the approval," he said in a statement Tuesday.
The department approved the company's plan to drill up to 1,500 metres at Lake Ainslie in July, with conditions. The Department of Energy gave its approval in September.
Some groups fear the drilling will harm the environment. Others worry it will lead to hydraulic fracturing — known as fracking — a process where water and chemicals are pumped into the ground.
WheelZzzz what kind of conditions do you think??? HUMMMMMMM??? sounds expensive!!!!!!
