RE: RE: Getting and Keeping Workers
RE: RE: Getting and Keeping Workers You might have missed some key words in the hearsay that I copied and pasted. The person who gave that report said they're having trouble getting or "keeping" labour to work "underground".
They could easily have a large stack of applications from mechanics, crane operators, or dozer and grader drivers but may have just a few applications from workers who are ready and willing to work the declines and shafts in 10-hour shifts. I's also very possible that they could be losing workers who began underground, but then soon realized that they weren't cut out for that type of work. It takes a unique mentality to go (and stay) underground every day for hours, so if other jobs are available, most workers clearly prefer not to do it unless it's a necessity for their financial survival.
