It's a formality that every project goes through, but if the public raises concerns, those issues must be addressed by the environmental impact statement. The permitting process is taking longer and longer, and the stakeholders have become more sophisticated and involved.

If a Canadian iron ore project isn't currently in the environmental permitting process then it's very doubtful it will be in production by 2015.
