RE: inpex Recall Upstreamonline publication in August-2011: "Market sources suggested Inpex may have found indications of hydrocarbons at the wildcat in Suriname’s embryonic offshore...This month, the Inpex wildcat was drilling below 2000 metres with hydrocarbons reportedly found in a shallower section of the well, possibly a Maastrichtian zone."
If INPEX is indeed negotiating with Suriname on some type of extension on Block 31 - holding the details back seems warranted. Several posts on this board have suggested INPEX is also negotiating with Suriname on leasing additional offshore blocks. If this is true, it is possible Block 33 in Suriname is the "block of interest".
It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall watching all these different discussions unfold - which seems to be complex, sensitive, and lucrative.
The only question that I have which seems a bit strange was comments made by Steve Hermeston in the most recent Feb-13-2012 news release (posted on the CGX website), last sentence: "The current location [Eagle-1, shallow] will significantly benefit from 3D acquired in conjunction with advances in better understanding the optimal position to test reservoirs deposited in deep water environments." Why would Steven specifically refer to "deepwater" in this news release as none of CGX's current blocks are located in deepwater?
Hmm...
Only deepwater blocks available in the Guyana-Suriname area are held by Exxon / Shell (Guyana); Kosmos (Suriname - Block 47); Murphy (Suriname - Block 48); Kosmos (Suriname - Block 42 & 45); and Unknown - Block 33 Suriname.
