Mobile financial and payment transaction platforms facilitator Utiba Americas is anticipating commercial launches of a series of mobile wallet trial projects in Latin America over the next 60 days, as the company sales VP Jesús Luzardo said in an interview.

The company presently is distributing systems for customers in 15 countries in the region, including Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Costa Rica and Mexico. Utiba Americas also has a deployment with Spanish electronic recharge specialist Movilway for 13 countries in Latin America, including the three largest, which are Brazil, Mexico and Argentina.

“They’re going to evolve from top-up into mobile commerce in some countries, depending on regulation. They’re building a network of agents for top-up using our solution,” said Jesús Luzardo in the same interview.

Utiba also declared in March a mobile wallet project for Ecuador’s central bank (BCE). The project is unique in the area in that the government is not only pulling up regulation, but also leading the project, Luzardo said.
