No, I do not know the mayoral candidates.

The answer to your other question is a bit more complex.  Publicly stating ones position on a particular issue does not require them to recuse themself from voting on related matters.  Only when there is a "conflict of interest" should the person recuse themselves.  Tom's stance is to protect the Town's future water supply.  Because there is no other interest which could corrupt the outcome of a vote there would be no conflict.  FYI, there is only one other person running for mayor - Lina Austin.  Lina Austin is the owner of a public relations company which stands to benefit financially from the mines operation.  Her company has also publicly endorsed Curis and it's mining operation.  If elected Ms Austin, would be required to recuse herself in voting on related matters as their is a conflict of interest relating to her business and the mine.
