Ford Power Stroke Diesel to Power JLTV As part of its proposal, BAE Systems has selected Ford to power its JLTV family of vehicles with a 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbocharged diesel with 400 hp and 800 lb-ft of torque. It’s the same powerplant found in the F-Series Super Duty trucks from the American automaker.
BAE Systems, with the aid of Northrop Grumman and Meritor Defense is submitting a proposal for the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase for its Joint Light Tactical vehicle (JLTV) program.
Ann Hoholick, BAE Systems Vice President of amphibious & new programs, explained the choice, saying “Ford products have a reputation for dependability and performance, even under challenging conditions. With their experience in commercial trucks, we see this as a great fit for our JLTV offer. It’s a win for us and a win for our valued customers.”
It seems the joke is on Chevrolet, considering these JLTVs would probably survive an apocalypse. A final decision will come in June when the government awards up to three EMD contracts.
