One is expected to be back in time for his wedding this weekend in Western Australia's Swan Valley. The other man is his brother and best man. Byrnecut managing director Steve Coughlan said a group of about five Byrnecut workers attempted to cross the border into Senegal on Saturday but had to return to their site in Mali after running into visa trouble.
guys that couldn't came back to the mine site and we flew them out yesterday,'' Mr Coughlan said.
Byrnecut employed about 40 Australian expatriates in Mali, he said. Other companies operating in Mali, including Resolute Mining and Golden Rim, released statements on March 23 reporting that their operations had not yet been affected by the instability.
