RE: my city way vs poynt ? great find bertoned. everyone on this board should be more diligent in identifying competitors like this to Poynt so that we can be made aware and discuss the merits/drawbacks of such applications.
first off: the core company comprise of bankers (co-founders) and not engineers/software designers. so i am a bit skeptical of how innovative and how sophisticated they may be in pursuing innovative features in their application if they came up with the idea of creating the app in 2010 (https://www.mycityway.com/team_mcw.html).
second: i did a patent search with the following
- mycityway as the assignee: no patent results
- sonpreet bhatia (co-founder): no patent results
- archana patchirajan (co-founder): no patent results, but I did find a comment (could someone post this) that he wrote about why it is important to know/understand your competition: https://tch854135.tch.quora.com/How-important-is-it-to-identify-understand-evaluate-your-competitor-when-you-are-a-startup-If-yes-then-what-parameters-you-should-look-for-while-developing-your-business-marketing-strategy . This amusing given that he either knows about poynt and chooses to not acknowledge them or he doesn't know about poynt which defeats the purpose of the posted comment.
they have zero patent protection unless they filed in the last 18 months and even then companies like Poynt have better IP positions than them.
third: they are clearly late entrants to the game if they started in 2010, but this is good news for Poynt because I will send an email to Gladios IP and inform them of this company. disclosure: gladios ip never responds to any of my emails :( when I highlight a possible infringer with detailed, publicly available information.
nonetheless, it is encouraging to see the traction that this company has developed.
If poynt did not have a solid patent portfolio, i would not have invested in the company.
