If shares in companies that do these reverse splits normally do very poorly afterwards then why would the company even consider doing one?  How would that be condusive to share price appreciation in the longer term?  The shares move higher when the company completes the turn around and if it can do some accreative deals in the meantime that's gravy. If the Street were concerned about some kind of reverse split I suspect the shares would be lower today, not higher.
