Your line "Those invested in Wi-Lan also come with different specializations and tech patent plays may not be their strength" couldn't be more true of Sprott. If you take a look at the holdings in the Sprott funds, Wi-Lan is practically the only tech name with the rest almost exclusively being resource stocks. Resource stocks is the Sprott specialty, not tech. I also think there are problems with the figures published on institutional ownership that distort the figures so I don't find them terribly reliable.
I'd also add that there is probably a slew of institutional investors that won't give Wi-Lan a look until we get 2-3 years of profitablity under our belt. We give the insitutional market WAY too much credit for understanding individual stocks. Most fund managers consist of a team of 3-5 people that need to cover the entire Cdn market. Most screen stocks on earnings to narrow down the field from 2000 names to 100 and then do more due diigence on the 100. Wi-Lan is still being screened out by most managers. Believe it or not, we are a lot closer to Wi-Lan than 75% of fund managers. You can tell by the comments of the Managers on BNN that most don't follow Wi-Lan closely and they make obvious comments that 90% of the people on this board could also make.
