RE: Just the Facts To the pumpers who downplay shareholder risks -
The Assembly of First Nations represents approx 1 million FN people in Canada - the largest population of FN is in BC. BC First Nations have land claims on 110% of the Province. This is a voting force and these groups can create massive headaches for Harper and provincial politicians. To date we are still stalled at Prosperity which continues to cost us big $$ and not to mention the lost opportunities becuase obviously our relationship stinks with the FNs in the area
As well - whether we like it our not - the Supreme Court has ruled that resource companies are legally obliged to consult with First Nations . First Nations opposition have stopped mining, hydro, golf course and housing developments all over Canada. So that means we have to talk to them - but they don't want to talk to us - how come?????
It is irresponsible to down play the risks of First Nations when it comes to our projects in BC or other locations in Canada. This risk is real and has cost us a lot of money and shareholder vlaue....
Mgt continues to poke the bear and the shareholders get bitten.
For my part - If the First Nations want to have a prayer and a a dance or even a puppet show and we end up having good relations with them as a result then I can't see how that can hurt us in trying to develop Prosperity.
