The Life Sciences Report Interview with Nick Waddell (5/3/12) "Zecotek Photonics Inc. is a Vancouver company involved in the use of scintillation crystals. . .it can also use these scintillation crystals in medical imaging and industrial applications because the micropixel photodiodes can replace the current vacuum tube-based phototubes in positron emission tomography (PET) scanners. It provides real-time anatomic and metabolic images using enhanced diagnostics. PET scanners, the last time I checked, cost about $1M per unit. It's not a pure play medical device story, but it could be very big. There are performance advantages that include making the scanners faster and getting higher resolution." More >
The Life Sciences Report Interview with Steven Palmer (4/26/12) "A company that I am excited about is Zecotek Photonics Inc. I like to invest in companies that have multiple paths to success. This is the situation with Zecotek. The company has several products, plus a lawsuit. Each of these things could have a significantly positive impact. Zecotek's current market value is only $35M. We think the value of the lawsuit could be $200M or more. The company also has a 3D-screen technology that doesn't require glasses, a laser division and patented technology for crystals used in PET scanners for the medical industry. Each of these, if successfully commercialized, could also be worth several hundred million dollars in value to the company." More >
Steve Palmer for CanTech Letter(4/3/12) "What I like about Zecotek is that they have multiple initiatives each of which could have a significantly positive impact. The lawsuit could have a substantial impact. Zecotek's current market value is only $35M. We think the value of the lawsuit could be $200M or more. The company also has a 3-D screen technology which doesn't require glasses and a laser division. Each of these, if successfully commercialized could also be worth several hundred million dollars in value to the company."
AlphaEdge(3/19/12) "On February 23, 2012, Zecotek Photonics Inc. filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles District Court against a unit of the French conglomerate Saint-Gobain and Phillips, seeking damages for infringing Zecotek's patent for scintillation crystals. Although patent lawsuits are launched every day, this one may be more significant than most, with damages that we estimate could well exceed $200M if Zecotek's infringement claims are recognized by the court. This estimate is based on recent court judgments in closely-related cases regarding the highly specialized technology used in PET medical imaging, in which Zecotek (current market cap $37M) is one of small number of participants and technology providers, along with some very large corporations such as Saint-Gobain, Philips, Siemens and GE."
CanTech Letter(2/3/12) "Vancouver's Zecotek Photonics, which dates its history back to 2004, is the brainchild of Dr. Faouzi Zerrouk, an English educated PhD in Theoretical Physics, who became a leading expert in photonics technologies. After investing more than $25M in its technology, Zecotek owns title to or controls more than 55 patents and applications and is on the verge of commercializing its laser systems, high-performance crystals, solid-state photo detectors and other imaging and 3-D display technologies."
