Ad hominem - typical. Sorry, boy, you can bluff some of the people all of the time, but...

Running to an accounting site to retrieve a suitable definition is not evidence of understanding.

So answer the rather simple question: If you re correct in your understanding, then why do not ALL companies display a Goodwill item on their balance sheets? Strictly speaking, if a company has hidden value beyond that presented on its financial statements, shouldn't that hidden value be ferreted out and recorded on its financial staements in order to reflect more accurately the underlying economic reality?
