A fraction of the energy. Water recycling. Environmentally friendly, inert tailings. ??But just how much would an incredibly clean new process for the mining industry cost?
Today, green mining company American Manganese announced financial results from its NI 43-101 feasibility study—a critical mining industry regulatory hurdle when developing a new project. The study validates the company’s breakthrough new process for creating electrolytic manganese metal (EMM), needed for the production of steel. Full press release here.
It’s an important milestone today for the innovative company, with a third party engineering firm finding its process economically feasible.
Why is this a cleantech story? The company’s new “electrowinning” process uses a fraction of the energy of today’s market-leading producers. It’s using membrane-based nanofiltration technology to recycle and reuse water, so no unsightly evaporating ponds. And the tailings, the output of its process, are environmentally inert and can go back into the ground. All three are unique in the company’s industry.
