Joint Panel Environmental Asessment???"The insufferable arrogance of human beings to think that Nature was made solely for their benefit, as if it was conceivable that the sun had been set afire merely to ripen men's apples and head their cabbages".
Cyrano De Bergerac
Last week the globe and mail stated in a letter they obtained, that Mr. McGuinty said to Mr. Harper
Exploiting the Ring of Fire is in the national interest, https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/mcguinty-calls-on-ottawa-to-play-active-role-in-ring-of-fire-mining/article2443684/
Does anyone know if the Ontario government is going to be conducting a joint panel Environmental assesment review between them and the First nations people... as this seems to be a contentious item for the Native people, as it should be, because they are the ones who will be directly afffected by these mines, as will their children and their childrens children for years to come, for the life expectancy of these mines could be well in excess of 100 years. To say "oh maybe we should have done a thorough joint panel environmental assesment" ten or fifteen years from now once the damage is done , is too late and to try to reverse the efffects that the mining may have had on the eco system at that point in time could take centuries to repair...if at all...
A joint panel review is in the best interest of our country and would be a sign that the government takes the concerns, interests and welfare of our First Nations people seriously; for they and their communities are the ones who will be directly affected by these mines. To ignore this request could be detremental to the North to the evironment, wildlife and the water. Lets us not be ignorant or arrogant in our presumptions, or become blinded by the potential wealth of these new found resource at the expense and disregard of others. Not only do the First Nation people need to be well informed but assured.
