Grassroots Opposition

Grassroots Opposition

Are you aware that this proposed in-situ mine is located in the geographical center of an incorporated town?  There is an elementary school within 2 miles, a highly-rated Anthem development within 5 miles, and it is on a primary arterial road connecting with the larger metropolitan areas of Phoenix and Tucson.  Curis has bombarded us with daily propaganda promising the moon and has even persuaded short-sighted residents that injecting billions of gallons of sulfuric acid into the ground is a good thing.  NOT!!  There is an ongoing grassroots movement opposing the mine that is not funded by any developer or special-interest group, although it is supportive of their research and input.  Hundreds of local residents and the Town Council of Florence have rejected and opposed the mine for two years now.  Curis hopes they can wait out the Town and eventually get their way while spending millions of their investors' dollars on a public relations campaign.  There have already been exceedances reported to the EPA of magnesium, sulfates and total dissolved solids from the ten-year-old BHP test wells on the site.  We don't want to be long-term test rats for this operation and we will continue to fight against it.
