If ECPB of Sinopec Group has mastered the technology of horizontal drilling

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You really should do more research before posting change3.................try 1960 and more recently 15 years ago.....

SoAbstract

This paper describes the basic status of horizontal well development and recovery technology in the onshore oilfield of China, that including the technology developed from the bottom-water reservoirs (light oil), heavy oil reservoirs with thermal recovery, low permeability reservoirs and high water cut water flooding reservoirs, and approaching the problems existed in the further development.

Introduction

In the early 1960's, two horizontal wells, Mo3 and Ba24, were drilled and completed in the fractured limestone reservoir in Sicuan Basin of Southwestern of China. In the beginning of 1990's, horizontal well development reached a high pitch. During 1990~1995, the research were conducted on the horizontal well technology applications in the different types of oil reservoirs, including heavy oil, bottom-water, low permeability and fractured oil reservoirs etc. These researches have promoted the development of horizontal well technology. Especially, a complete set of horizontal well technologies has been preliminarily established and good economic profit has been achieved with horizontal wells in the development of bottom-water and heavy oil reservoirs. The study and field tests have begun using horizontal well to develop water-flooded mature oil fields to recover remaining oil. Therefore, the groundwork has been laid for the application and development of horizontal well technology in China.

Horizontal Well Drilling and Completion

By the end of 1997, total 159 horizontal wells have been drilled and completed in the onshore oilfield of China (Table 1). They are distributed in 13 oilfields, which most of them are located in Shengli Oilfield, with 61 wells, accounting for 38.4%; besides that, 23 wells in Xinjiang Oilfield accounting for 14.5%, 19 wells in Dagang accounting 12%, 15 wells in Tarimu, accounting for 9.4%, 16 wells in Liaohe accounting for 10.1%.

Horizontal well completion mainly includes casing cementing and perforation completion, liner (including slotted & perforation) completion, open hole completion and liner with ESP. Most of them are casing cementing and perforation completion, with 88 wells (55.3%). Secondly, 58 wells are liner completion (36.4%). In Liaohe Oilfield, they have researched and constructed a steel fiber liner completion, with combination of sand control by themselves. The good performance has been made through preliminary test.

Horizontal wells were classified into three types by curvature: short-radius, medium-radius and long-radius. Most of them is medium-radius, with 140 wells, accounting for 90%.

The horizontal well drilled to date covered many types of oil reservoirs. These horizontal wells are mainly used to recover oil from heavy oil reservoirs (thermal recovery), matured oilfields, low-permeability reservoirs, bottom-water reservoirs as well as natural fractured reservoirs. Most of them were used to develop heavy oil reservoirs (thermal method), with well numbers of 55, accounting for 34.6%, 46 wells were used to recover remaining oil in matured oilfields (28.9%), 10 wells for developing fractured reservoirs (6.3%), 15 wells for developing bottom-water reservoirs (9.4%).
