Ethiopia , US sign $1.54b

development assistance deal.

Addis ababa June 20 , 2012 ( WIC ) - Ethiopia and the United States signed on Tuesday a financial deal amounting to $1.54 billion aimed at boosting the Growth and Transformation Plan of Ethiopia.

Finance and Economic Development State Minister Ahmed Shide and USAID Mission Director Tomas Staal signed the deal on behalf of their respective governments in Addis Ababa.

The finance is expected to be utilized for the implementation of the nation’s strategies in the sectors of agriculture, health and education focusing on quality improvement in service delivery besides improving governance, According to ENA .

The US Ambassador to Ethiopia, Donald Booth who witnessed the signing of the development cooperation said his country would continue its support to the success of Ethiopia’s development.

State Minister, Ahmed Shide for his part said the funds would help to improve service in the education and health sectors as well as increase productivity in the agriculture sector.

USAID Mission Director Tomas Staal said the finance would be channeled into development and humanitarian assistance in the first year of the new five-year Country Development Cooperation Strategy.
