Parliament and civic society discuss a report of Deputies’ Commission on Investigation of Kumtor Operating Company Activity. The 800-page report on the most important company’s activity is full of critics and information about ecological violations.

Imprisonment

People’s deputies are demanding to put in prison Kumtor’s top management.

All aspects of the company’s activity was criticized: violations were found in glaciers, tailing pounds, dumps, financial documents, insurance fees, commodities purchases in Canada (for needs of company and employees). In total, the deputies reported for 6 hours.

Kyrgyzstan’s representatives in Kumtor were under critics too for “bad promotion of national interests”. Deputies, especially Ata Zhurt faction deputy Kumantay Abdiev, were very concerned with Kumtor’s employees’ salaries. This very topic was discussed for half of the total time. The only conclusion was made by deputies: total eviction and “fair re-distribution”.

Everything should belong to people…

“Canadians must be removed from the company,” offered some deputies. It means that Kyrgyz side may mine by their own and resources belong to the population (more specifically, to some persons). Speaker Sadyr Zhaparov provoked very harsh debates: more than 80 deputies wished to express themselves. So, the Speaker was concern with the possible length of parliamentary session.
