RE: you almost choked Mr. Bates

RE: you almost choked Mr. Bates

I don't know if you are versed at all in politics or the art of war, Mr. Bates, but running an outfit as large as CMK, you ought to have. One of the tactics of war or politics is not to try to exterminate the opponent in one stroke, for if you miss, he may come back with a vengence and wipe you off of the face of the earth, So what do you do. You wear him down and when you have softened him up, you go for the kill. It's called the "Salami Tactics" i.e., you don't swallow the whole salami in one move for you may choke; you slice the salami and you eat it slowly. You on the other hand tried to swallow the whole salami in one stroke and you almost choked and almost choked us all as well. The project you started there, instead of going slow and complete it you decided to do it by leaps and bounds in a very short time and on a shoe string, borrowed money, issued shares, and so forth. You were in a hurry, too busy to notice what is really happening around you in terms of demand of met coal etc. You hired people to produce coal that no one wanted, you depleted the Treasury, you put people on the Board presumably to advise you, and big names too, one was even a Minister. And what kind of advice did you get? The enemy I am talking about, in this case, is not visible, it's the way the whole setting up and running of the company. Today the company is left in a sorry state of affairs and all the President's men are feasting on the carcass; not the slightest change has take place in the Holy Family of family and friends. Not even an apology to shareholders and all the families of those laid off whose dreams you pumped up with your reckeless optimism and opportunism. And the funny part is you keep selling hopes for the future. It brings to mind Miller's play  the "Death of a Salesman" who at some point he says " I used to sell hopes, now nobody buys them". Do you think  you can still sell hopes after what happened. I don't think so. Next time. Sir, please don't swallow the salami in one strorke. You'll choke us all.
