There's a variety of ways and combinations to which a project can receive funding.  And they certainly offer a better venue to future upside than simply folding up shop and selling to the highest bidder as you suggest.   Would you have said the same thing about TCK.B back in 2008 when it was on deaths door and trading below $4 a share?
