Alumina Commercialization Planning

Alumina Commercialization Planning

The Company's objective is to market specialty alumina and to transform such alumina in value-added products intended for very high growth markets such as the Opto-electronic sector whose overall size, according to the Optoelectronics Industry Development Association, is $236 billion and had an average annual growth of 17.9% between 2003 and 2005. These products are typically associated with high margins and could be transformed locally. According to the US Department of the Interior, the spot price for metallurgical-grade alumina for the initial 9 months of 2005 varied between US$390 and US$500 per ton. Specialty alumina that Orbite intends to produce are generally commercialized at prices higher that those applicable to metallurgical-grade alumina. In concert with the National Optics Institute (INO), a world-class center of expertise in business applications for optics and photonics located in Quebec City, Orbite has initiated works regarding the marketing of alumina applications.
