RE: revenue
RE: revenue I must mention first that I am not a trained engineer, but I am working on personal projects that involve a heavy dose of aerodynamics so I have some grasp of the phenomenon involved.
The point you mention is valid, but if I understand well the purpose of the product of this company, it would not substantially undermine the benefit it provides. The main idea is that the Vindicator (i don't remeber the new name) OPTIMIZE the orientation of the turbine as solutions to point the turbine in the general direction of the wind already exists. The purpose of the Vindicator is, if I am correct, to collect data about a wind column projected from the turbine axis of rotation in all directions so that the best possible orientation is selected.
The main problem of orienting a turbine using information collected on the turbine itself is that the rotating blades disturb the flow of the fluid by effectively pushing behind the turbine (the net effect is that the wind pushes the blades, but a component of that net equation is a positive thrust behind the blades). Even if a set of 30 turbines is distributed in a fairly regular patterns accross a field, the disturbances generated by each and every rotating blades would generate divergent optimal orientations for indivdual turbines regardless of the initial wind direction.
Henceforth, given that the benefit of the product comes from marginal adjustment of the angle of attack of the rotating blades (through variable geometry blades, the orientation of the turbine or both), it would make sense to implement one on each turbine to allow full optimization of the power plant.
This being said, this is my personal understanding of the mechanism by which this product generates value and not the opinion of a certified engineer. Hope this was useful.
