Good of you to note Artey! And as some of the more seasoned compadres may recall, the UK has dealt with some of the most costly bovine diseases in history.
Bovine Spongiform, better known as BSE or "MAD COW" to CNN viewers, nearly wiped out their entire 2,000 year old species a few years ago. There is not a jurisdiction on Earth more conscious of their beef and dairy cattle than the UK. With all due respect to the CFIA, the Brits take food safety seriously! They may eat 3,500 calories of F&S a day at the pub, but they know they live and die with those healthy, obese grass eaters.
What does that mean for BNC? Essentially it means that one of the wealthiest nations on Earth has deemed their Econiche product as a critical tool in the protection of one of the largest national industries. Rural pushes urban and people get deathly ill! The resulting press is horrible, and trade issues start to brew!!! See Spain V Germany last June!
Food safety/beef safety is a "National Security Interest" in effect. In turn, they have determined that, in protecting this once decimated industry, they are protecting the food source of their own population as well as their trading arrangements.
Apparently the US strategy of shoot, burn bury and "MOST IMPORTANTLY" DENY IT EXISTED wasn't deemed a marketable tactic in the UK!
No small feat indeed!.... No matter how you attempt to mitigate its significance.
