Kinross Gold Corporation is a Canada-based global senior gold mining company with operations and projects in the United States, Brazil, Mauritania, Chile and Canada. The Company’s projects include Fort Knox, Round Mountain, Bald Mountain, Manh Choh, Paracatu, La Coipa, Lobo-Marte, Tasiast and Great Bear projects. Fort Knox is an open-pit gold mine located near the city of Fairbanks, Alaska. Round Mountain is a long-life, open pit mine located in Nevada. The break even for Tasiast was around $1425 per Kinross. I think that was stated in the news release when they had to write down Tasiast. When gold is $100 or so above that figure that is not zero margin, but neither is it a comfortable enough margin to comnmit to spending billions of dollars on. This is one of the main reasons Kinross' stock has gone down so much in value. Anyways, in answer to your question of where my theory came from, the answer is Kinross.

As far as being profitable no argument there. Except of course for the huge writedown of Tasiast. Also, keep in mind that all expenses related to Tasiast are capitalized and will continue to be so till they reach commercial production ( At least as far as the expansion goes)

We may not need miracles to see a higher share price but better cost controls and a higher gold price would certainly help.
