Considering it's most likely retail investors, chances are it's just people putting their bets in before the announcement. Same with the commons, yesterday someone at Questrade bought 900k shares at the ask and today someone at National bank bought 500k shares at the ask (both pref A and B were also bought today by one or a couple of investors from their National Bank accounts).
