RE: shale gas a no go in Quebec

RE: shale gas a no go in Quebec

I read the article and just shake my head and further believe how completely incompetent the PQ government is and am in greater disbelief that Quebecers CHOSE to elect this party!! Martine Ouellet, who obviously knows nothing about the oil and gas industry is hell bent on continuing the shale gas moratorium because SHE doesn't think that fracking can be done safely. To me this is insane. I think SHE just doesn't think, period. How can someone in her position say something like this without knowing the facts? How can she be so arrogant to make a blanket statement like that without knowing the science of the method? The report that is to be completed by next November will likely state that fracking, when best practices are followed, can be done safely with minimal risk to the land or aquifer systems. What I hope DOESN'T happen is that this report is ignored because it doesn't reflect her ignorant,, uninformed OPINION. There is no need for ongoing delays and additional studies once this report comes out. Follow the recommendations and lets get back to business. Quebec has a deficit of $184 billion dollars....they are broke. This is no time to also be stupid. I hope Quebec does not turn their back on an industry that can provide thousands of good paying employment opportunities for their people and billions of dollars for their provincial coffers from royalties and taxes. If Quebec really believes that fracking is so dangerous then why are they importing up to 30% of their natural gas from Alberta that comes from unconventional projects that requires fracking. Quebec....don't be so hypocritical !!! If you truly believe this is an unsafe process then why are you importing it? Are the people of Alberta who are supplying YOUR ENERGY NEEDS not worth the same concern you have for own residents of Quebec? Why import what you refuse to develop? That doesn't make any sense....but electing this govenment makes no sense either. Quebec.....you are in no position to turn your back on revenue from the oil and gas industry. Quit acting like a "have" province when you are clearly a "have not, need a hand-out" province. And quit making statements that prove your own ignorance and incompetence. The Quebec government needs to stop being so close minded with what they believe and be more open-minded about an industry that is ever-evolving. Fracking that is done today is safer than it was done even a couple of years ago. The Quebec government seems stuck with a mindset that this industry has not made advances. Quit listening to rhetoric, throw your copy of "Gasland" in the garbage and start looking at all the places in the world that are reaping the rewards of the natural gas business without destroying the precious environment.

Quebec...its time to be smarter.
