To ship 12 months a year at Baffinland, Arcelor is spending billions to build a fleet of ships that currently doesn't exist: massive ore carriers (capacity of 190K dead weight tonnes) with ice breaking ability. It's a technically innovative and risky plan, and contributes to Baffinland's expected $7 billion in capex.

AXI, because its budget doesn't include multiple billions for these kind of ships, if it wants to use Cape Size ore carriers will be restricted to 2 months of shipping in the summer. With smaller ice class boats they can ship from June to December, weather permitting.
