September 27, 2012 - WSJM 94.9 - New Leak Found At Palisades; NRC Says Not Dangerous - A new leak has been discovered at the Palisades nuclear power plant, but it is not being deemed a threat. In an email, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Viktoria Mitlyng tells WSJM there is no danger from the leak, adding it is usually "not reportable." It is in a service water valve and about the size of a pinhole. Inspectors say water is leaking at a rate of about one and a half cups per hour and is not increasing. The leak is also not affecting other equipment and is not radioactive. It was found during a routine inspection last week in the system, which draws in water from Lake Michigan to cool the pumps and other plant equipment. The leakage will be continuously monitored by the NRC.
